KRUGER PARK

Tuesday
Boys golfed. Packed up for Kruger. Drove 5 hrs to Nelspruit. A beautiful mission area where Bro. and Sis. Black from the ward serve. We tried Nandos for the first time. We went out with the two Saint George elders to teach a lesson. It was so fun to see a typical missionary setting-a hot, dark house, beautiful people baring testimony that the gospel is true. We loved the Nelspruit stay in a beautiful home with a charming pool, great breakfast, a fun running trail behind the house, monkeys all over the houses, and a bath and shower outside on the patio. We bathed the kids morning and night just for the experience! We watched the Kruger battle on youtube and a beautiful lighting storm that night.

Nels has huge snails and lots of grass to play rugby!

Wednesday
We woke up to monkeys peering in all our windows. We went for a run. Mike and Linda studied with the missionaries and we headed to Kruger. We grabbed groceries and nandos. Tried awesome harries pancakes. Tried springbok and baked avocados. and headed to Kruger park lodge. We tucked the kids away and hoped to play games but Tagg would not let papa go.

Thursday
We checked out the lodge hippo pond and were amazed to see a mom and baby out of the water. They were opening their jaws and snorting making quite the show.
I was obsessed with the hippos.  I had no idea they are the most dangerous African animals. I loved seeing this mama and baby that swam right next to her.  They put on quite the show for us. Opening their mouths, getting in and out of the water making a wave pool, and making the cutest snorting sounds. Tagg's picture with the hippo statue has to be one of my african favorites! That face and those curls and the funny dressed hippos. Of course the picture was all his idea.  He didn't care if I got any pictures of the real animals but any statue we would see, he had to have a picture of.

We drove to the big swing and could not believe we jumped off the edge of a cliff and swung past a waterfall. One of the coolest experiences. I felt like I died. That's my only explanation. Complete shock and my body just shutting down only to be caught and hugging Brady as we realized we survived.
We drove for an hour through Kruger and saw nothing. We all thought we would be skunked and see nothing. We stopped and Linda took a bathroom break and got out of the car. Just then we noticed the cutest pink hippo in the pond. We got in the car and started driving when we saw two huge rhino! Right where Linda had got out. Then ranger Ruth came by and scolded us for getting out of the car. Funny thing was she was a birding enthusiast not a ranger but she took it upon herself to patrol our stay in Kruger.

The top of Lydias head looking out at the cutest pink hippo and us with the rhino to our right. Tagg always making the scared face.

We drove up the road and saw the most amazing scene. Right next to the car where 4 sleeping lions. It was amazing to see them in the wild so close up. Ranger Ruth followed us there and gave us many many hand signals to try and make her lion experience just right. We drove to our hotel and saw the prettiest family of giraffes. We walked into the hotel and Tagg said this looks like the ranch. We took the kids to the pool and got to a dark murky pool. I freaked out and was sure it was a hippo pond or crocodile pond. Brady was set on swimming and said no way we are going. He jumped in as we sat by the side waiting for him to get scared. He convinced Tagg to get in and Lydia. My heart was racing just watching them so that's all I needed. I fear dark water! We came back to Mike and Linda making a feast of Mac and cheese for t and lamb chops and chicken and rice for us over the fire. We played jokers and lost.
I think I took maybe 200 photos of these lions. The lion came right behind our car and I snapped a great profile of Brade and the lion.
We drove to our hotel and saw the prettiest family of giraffes. We saw zebras, elephants, and warthogs. We walked into the hotel and Tagg said this looks like the ranch. We took the kids to the pool and got to a dark murky pool. I freaked out and was sure it was a hippo pond or crocodile pond. Brady was set on swimming and said no way we are going. Friday
We drove along crocodile bridge and saw amazing safari animals as the kids enjoyed the car thankfully. I thought Lydia would be sleeping through most of the drives and animals sightings but she didn't miss one animal. Mainly because she was on our laps through the whole dirt roads. We headed home and needed water so we stopped at a lodge and grabbed yummy pizza.
